Going back in time

I visited my old elementary school with my mom to help update the paint colors inside. Going there and walking the halls, seeing my elementary teachers brought back so many memories.  I remember thinking that the cafeteria was so big but since I am taller and older it does not seem as big as in my memory and the bathroom counters seem so short.  My kindergarten year was spent in another building on the opposite side of town.  Once I moved up into 1st grade the school had changed locations and changed their name.  In the paper a couple of weeks ago, the school had over 100 graduates.  Over the years I have watched the school change, they now have a new gym built ( When I was young they had a big white temporary dome building for the gym ) , there were covered walkways, the plants were more mature, etc.  Even though I have not been to a traditional school since third grace ( I am homeschooled ) , I have had so many opportunities to do other things that I would not be able to do if I was still in traditional school. Such as really being able to focuse on my music ( Piano, Dulcimer ) , and having the time to do creative art, and sewing for a local ballet studio.  People ask me if I miss not being in school, I can honestly say " No " because I can do lots of things and gain more life skills than I would have been able to if I was in a school setting.

A guest post from SteffysProsandCons

Here is the lovely Steffy of Steffy'sProsandCons. She was so sweet in responding to a guest post request.
Enjoy!

Where do you get daily inspiration for your outfits?

I find almost all of my inspiration from other bloggers around the internet. My two favorite blogs above any others are Flashes of Style and Fancy Treehouse, i think they combine my girly side and my vintage side... and they both give me new ideas every day!

If you could have an unlimited clothing budget where would you spend it?

I would spend all of my budget at my two favorite thrift stores... urban jungle in brooklyn and flamingo plaza in miami!
 What is your morning routine?

hm, well it depends. it always begins with grabbing my computer on the floor next to my bed and reading through e-mails and commenting on my fav. blogs on bloglovin. then i usually go for a 3 mile run or to the gym, followed by picking up an iced coffee either at cafe demetrios, the french restaurant or starbucks! these are the productive days though... :)

Your shop is called Tea and Tulips, is there a story behind the name or was it just a name that you liked?

ha! I originally opened the shop with my best bud sara, and we brainstormed via fb chat (she was in colombia at the time) for weeks before we decided on that name. we thought it was classy!

Where do you like to go thrifting and do you have any tips?

i thrift basically anywhere with reasonably priced clothes. i am always scoping out new places to go, and making the treck to random ghetto areas in miami where the best stores tend to be. my number one tip is to pick a color scheme. whether it be your favorite color or the color you like the most at the moment, this helps you to narrow down the type of items you are looking for. OR i make a list of what is missing most in my wardrobe before i even enter the store.

 What are your favorite color combos right now?

i am loving rusty browns mixed with pastel pinks right now. maybe because that is what i have on today.. ha!

 And lastly, what are your favorite summer ideas and trends for fashions right now?

my all time favorite summer trends are pleated skirts, thin material trousers and anything that can save me from the florida heat!

 Thanks for popping by Steff!

My mom and sister have light colored so it is hard for them to understand how hot my hair gets in the summer. My head gets so hot that I am suprised it is not tan. I found that wearing a hat helps keep my head cool and my fashion cooler. Is cooler a word? : )

I love wearing my newest creation, my skirt! Although I have sewn up fabric items, this is the first clothing item that has found its way into my wardrobe. When I was younger,  sewing always frustrated me because if something went wrong with the project, or I was in a difficult spot,  I would get so stinkin mad and would want to throw the whole thing away and forget about it. So thats why I didn't really sew that much until recently, when I helped sew some costumes and make headpieces for a local ballet studio. Maybe because I was older or something but I have gotten better about trying to figure out my problem in a sewing project whenever I was in a tough spot. Anyway I have another version of this skirt by my sewing machine almost completed!

Dress::: Etsy
Lace dress-underneath::: Forever21
Crocheted skirt::: Forever21
Shoes::: Gianni Bini

This outfit began as the story of a girl who's dress appeared too short.  But when her closet rack revealed that layering a lace dress and crocheted skirt would transform the image of her dress, the girl squealed with excitement and loved the combination. The layering reminded me of having a petticoat on.

 ThriftedThings is a new fav. blog for me, and after reading how she styled her hair I thought I would give it a try. My hair has natural waves, so once I encouraged them to curl/wave even more, voila! My hair turned out like this. I looove it! Oh and my new wedges were purchased recently and are really comfy.

And lastly I purchased a new camera!! It is a Nikon coolpix L120 and I am so happy with how the pictures turned out. When I jump from 7.2 pixels to 14 to me there is a big difference how my pictures appear on the screen.

Haha, did you see my pose in the second picture? Well the camera had proof that I was falling. Oh well. Anyway the first day of summer already has its hot breath on my face and so wearing a flowy top has helped keep me cool with the small amount of breeze rustling my shirt. During my thrift store runs I have kept an eye out for cute high waisted pants to run through my serger and sewing machine and come out as vintage shorts that are the right length. For me the crotch to edge is about 7-8 inches long. Do you like my hair? The curl/waves are natural if I encourage them. It helps cut down on my time getting ready in the morning.
