10 things about me

I have read where other bloggers have done it so I want to as well.

10 Things about me:

1. I am obsessed with Estate Sales because of all the goodies and vintage galore! If you haven't noticed I wear a lot of vintage clothes. But please don't give me the 80's shoulder pads. 

2. I have a kitty, Alabama Thursday, whom I love dearly. He greets me in the morning with his meows and purring, and is very soft. Though at times he turns into a very vicious thing.

3. I am learning how to make classical ballet tutus and making headpieces for the local ballet studio.

4. I am loving chevron, fringe and feathers right now!!

5. My room is a creative canvas that I love to decorate with all of my vintage finds and create things. The  walls are robins egg blue and I have pops of red and dark blue in my stuff. Recently I toned down my creative mess, but it will soon be filled up again.

6. I love to travel to different cities to experiance different places. Of course shopping is high upon the list of sight seeing. Think of all the vintage and thrift shops to visit!

7. I am gluten intolorent so cooking special foods all the time is a must. My favorite recipe that I make is Roasted Potato Leek soup.

8. I have a soft spot for old books such as the Trixie Belden, Donna Parker, and Cherry Ames series. My bookshelf is stuffed with all kinds of old books too. When I hold a book in my hand I feel connected to the story. I dont feel like I am really reading a book when I read the electronic version.

9. What would I do without good friends? The real kind where you can tell them anything and laugh together and talk about it a long time afterwards.

10. I love winter days when you wear cozy sweaters, curl up drinking hot chocolate in an old quilt with a cat purring by your side.

Pink Saturation

Have you ever seen pink on me before? Well I am actually surprised that I like bought a pink shirt. When I went to Starr's moving sale, this shirt stood out to me. When I stand back and look at it I wonder what possessed me to buy it? Well for years I wouldn't buy anything that had even a smidge of that color on it. ( I even bought a purple shirt yesterday *gasp*, yes purple is another color I don't buy normally). Also the shoes have pink on it too that I thought would match the shirt when I pulled them out of there off season resting place. I am so excited about the seasons changing! Last night I switched my closet out from fall/winter to spring/summer. Changing my closet out always gets me excited about wearing new combinations of clothes.

Making a Mens Shirt into a skirt

After seeing this post, it inspired me to make my own version of a shirt skirt and to add a tutorial with it. Also my friend and her Grandmother made one too.The size of the shirt I got at Goodwill was a  Junior Mens Large. I have a 25 inch waist and it barely worked. So the next time I find a shirt I will buy a mens large or extra large to have more of a shirt to work with.

Also I will iron the shirt before I start cutting. It was a bit tricky to get everything lined up straight.

I cut the sleeves off at the seams.

I drew a straight line across right underneath the top button, to follow when I cut the shirt.

Then I sliced the top off of the shirt off.

Looking good!

I used one of my favorite skirts as a pattern. It is just a simple straight line skirt.

I traced around the skirt about and inch away.

Next I pinned the shirt together to keep it from twisting. Maybe if I ironed it, it wouldnt slip around.

I cut around and made a skirt shape. By this time I am very excited!

To make a waist band I used the pieces that I had cut off. Having a longsleeve shirt would be easier because then I wouldnt have to piece together pieces to make a waistband.

I measured  2 1/4 inch wide strips on all of my scraps. ( I didnt have that many scraps to work with. )

Then I sewed the pieces together at the ends.

I cut some interfacing to match the size of my waistband strip. I only sewed on 3 sides ( I only sewed the  ends and 1 long side )

After turning the waistband inside out I pinned it to the shirt.

I sewed the waistband with the interfacing side up ( See picture )

Then I folded the waistband over and sewed the end that I did not sew down to the inside, following the seam I had just made. 

Then I tried on the skirt and started to alter the sides of the skirt so that is would be a straight line down the side. When I sewed the side, my seam seemed to follow the armhole curve, so I had to tweak the sewing to get it just right. The skirt was taken off many times to be adjusted.The picture below shows how the side seams looked on the inside.

This is one of my first attempts to make a button hole. Hopefully my next BH will be better.

Marching into Spring

Driving home one day, our family decided to take a different route. To my delight there was the perfect patch of daffodils on a hill side. Who knew there could be this kind of daffodil patch on a golf course? This year spring came early for Arkansas, and it seemed like all of the bradford pear trees bloomed at the same time around town. Do you like my hair? I have decided to let it do its thing, instead of straigtening the ends. I like my hair style so much that I will wear it till I get tired of it. I also feels good to take a break from straightening you hair for a long time. The flowers were so perfect they looked like a backdrop that you use in photo shoots at Wal-Mart.

Ps. It is supposed to get down in the 30's tonight.

If only they could talk

My baby, Alabama Thursday. He decided to join me during the photo shoot. But quickly decided to run after a bird.

 Hey I am back.  Remember me?  Well I did go one Estate Sale this weekend but I am just now talking about it.  I got a 3 dollar basket of thread and a cute yellow velvet pillow.  In love! The three quilts that I am taking pictures on is a collection of mine that is slowly growing.  The only time I buy a quilt is when it is SUPER cheap or I fall in love with it.  Ok so let me tell you about my red, white and blue checkered quilt. I went to a flea market with my friends and found it only a shelf marked 75% off.  I quickly grabbed it and the total cost came to 7.50.  I cant believe I got it!  The gold and white earrings also came home with me from the same flea market as well.

The quilt pictured below was an 8 dollar quilt I snagged at an estate sale right when it opened. It has some rips but that only adds to the character of it.  My other quilt ( Seen in the first few pictures ) is my very first quilt I bought.  I came from a flea market and I got for about 15 dollars.  Something about old quilts fascinate me.  Was it an heirloom present forgotten and sold many years later?  Or was it created by a dear old grandmother given to her grand daughter intended to be loved and used until it was in tatters? Oh how I wish fabric could talk.
